My Great Idea

Sometimes, I have a great idea. I teach a class called 'Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness' to high school kids. In this class, we cook twice a week. Being the good example that I am, I wash my hands constantly throughout the day. I used to fling a dishrag over my shoulder, so it would always be handy. But then I would always end up wiping my hands on the bottom of my apron. So an idea was born.....

The only problem, is sometimes my towel gets REALLY dirty throughout the day. And I would hate to throw the whole apron in the washing machine when just the dish rag is dirty. The solution? Add some velcro!

Close up of velcro:

This way, I can just pull the towel off and attach a new one!

The possibilities are endless! A plain apron, with seasonal dish towels? Sounds good to me! Maybe I'll try that next.

One of my favorite bloggers (Made by Rae) is hosting "Spring Top Week" this week. Maybe one day I'll enter...once I figure out how to make a top!

T-Shirt Quilts!

I've been making t-shirt quilts for quite a while. I love them because they're a great way to create something fun and useful out of your old t-shirts. The first one I made was out of my old Texas Tech t-shirts. I had a ton more shirts, but who knows what happens to them...

Since this first quilt, I've made many more for family and friends. I'm currently working on 4 quilts for a friend of the family. She has two daughters who have gone through a lot of t-shirts!!! I finished the first for her oldest daughter yesterday:

I'm in the process of finishing one for her younger daughter as well:

These quilts are pretty easy to make...lots of straight lines. They're just really time consuming!!! And apparently I can't cut well, b/c the hardest part for me is getting all the lines to line up when I sew the rows together. I'm getting a lot better...but hopefully I will continue to improve!

A cute variation on the t-shirt quilt is the baby clothes quilt. I've made two of these for a friend..one for her little girl, and this one for her little boy:

I can't wait to make one of these for each of my boys. I have two large boxes full of clothes, one for each of them. Every time Sam outgrows a size (which is fairly often..we're at 24 months for our 10 month old!), I go through the clothes and make three piles...Quilt for Henry, Quilt for Sam and Donate. I think I'm going to stick to the clothes they wore during their first year. So I could probably start on Henry's quilt pretty soon.

So much to sew, so little time!

P.S. I've got to start taking pictures with a real camera...not my phone!

In Awe of Wonder Under

Wonder Under is my new favorite thing. I started using it to create this cute tie onesie for Sam (you can find the pattern and complete tutorial at http://www.crapivemade.blogspot.com/) :

Sadly, Sam had a massive poop in his Thanksgiving tie shirt, and it ended up in the trash. So we tried again on Valentine's Day. This one survived the day, thank goodness!!

I've also made a couple for friends. These are for Easter and 4th of July:

And, matching ones for a boy and a girl:

Since I master the art of the tie onesie, I've used Wonder Under for a variety of shirts for both my boys and myself. As a teacher, we get to wear jeans on Friday, as long as we're wearing a school shirt. All my school shirts were navy, blue and more navy, and I need a little COLOR!!! So I've created my own shirts to wear. This one combines my love of wonder under with my love of the rag quilt.

I've got more cute shirts I'll have to post once I get pics... More soon!

Hello, world!

So this is blogging... :) I hope to use this blog to keep track of my family and all my craftiness. I love to sew, when I have time. But with two small boys and a full time job, I don't have a lot of time. But, I wanted a place to keep track of all my work. I've done so many projects over the years, and I think my sewing skills are improving. Hopefully by keeping track of my stuff I'll be able to see an improvement!!

I haven't been sewing as much because of my two boys, Henry and Sam. This is Sam, who is almost 10 months old. He's always smiling and always in a good mood.
Henry is my older boy. He's almost 2 1/2 and he's amazing. At times, he is definitely a 'terrible twos' kid, but most of the time, he is sweet, loving and cuddly!!

Being the only girl in a housefull of boys has taken some adjustments. Our house is filled with toy trucks, loud toys and all things "boy." But I wouldn't have it any other way!!
